TESTIMONIALS - ESL/ELL
Reading A-Z is a wonderful site for those of us who teach first-language literacy. I teach in a two-way immersion program, and having the same books in two different languages is such a huge advantage. I don't know what I would do without Reading A-Z.
Susie Nicoli; Fourth-Grade Teacher; Aloha Park Elementary; Beaverton, Oregon
I use the Reading A-Z books weekly in my class. I can find a book that supports almost any theme, and the corresponding student worksheets complement my curriculum.
Mary Earley; Fifth-Grade ESL Teacher; Thompson Intermediate School; Alabaster; Alabama
I use your leveled readers with the immigrant children I teach. I intend to ask my principal to get a license for the school. Although we are a middle school, we still use this as a resource.
Nathalie; Sixth-, Seventh-, and Eighth-Grade ESOL Reading Teacher
I have been using Reading A-Z for several years. I am teaching second grade in a school with a rapidly rising Hispanic population. I have children reading on kindergarten- to fourth-grade levels. I use the books in class with struggling readers and English language learners. I can send the books home so children who have few books in their homes can build their libraries. They all love to take these books home.
Cathy Somers; Second-Grade Teacher; Skelly Elementary
All my students love the Reading A-Z books. The teachers I work with appreciate that I use a literacy-based approach to work with the students. The bilingual teachers have been pleased that I have had access to books in Spanish for their students.
Manuela Juarez Ph.D.; CCC/SLP Bilingual Speech Language Pathologist; San Antonio Independent School District
I am so excited about this website and what I will be able to do with my ESL readers. Now, I'm even more convinced that subscribing to this website was a good decision--excellent help as well as an excellent product. Now my students are excited to do guided reading every day.
Cindy Nelson; Principal; Earview Colony School, Gull Lake School Division No. 76
We are submitting a purchase order for several teachers in our district. We love your materials and will not give them up after having been exposed to them.
Irene Granado; Bilingual Director; Ector County Independent School District
I cannot tell you what a blessing your Web site and books have been to our fledgling bilingual program this year. I use both your Spanish and English texts with my students reading in English. My students read the books in English, and then I send both the English book and the Spanish book of the same title home with them for homework. The parents of my students who do not read English use the Spanish texts. This allows them a chance to connect with their child in the reading process, as they are able to discuss the texts and ask good deep comprehension questions about the story with their child. Your paralleled texts have allowed the parents of my students, many for the first time, to connect with their children during the reading process.
Christine A. Motes, MBE; First-and-Second Grade Bilingual Teacher; Houston Elementary School; Lancaster, Texas
Our school has included the Reading A-Z levels in our curriculum. This is the second year I have used Reading A-Z leveled books with our Title I first-graders. I have seen wonderful growth. Most of my students are close to grade level now.
The classroom teachers and I use the books for home reading as well as in class. We appreciate the new Benchmark and non-fiction books, too. The Reading A-Z books are particularly helpful in expanding the English vocabulary of our ELL students. Our kindergarten teachers use the Leveled books and High-Frequency Word books.
Thank you for providing these wonderful materials at such a reasonable price. They are truly a blessing for poor districts like ours.

Reading A-Z materials are the best. My kids are enjoying the new books. The leveled readers are terrific. Being in a bilingual classroom is so hard without reading materials in Spanish. We are limited to what we have in our library and classroom. Parents are also at a loss because they can't walk in any store and buy books for their children in Spanish. I really appreciate the program. I wish to express my sincere thanks on behalf of my children and myself to those who have made this program possible and accessible to enrich our reading program. Thank you so much!
Lucy Roblez, First-Grade Teacher; Keyes Elementary; Irving ISD
I am a Title I teacher. I teach in Spanish and English, and my students love reading and sharing these books with family members. Many come from less fortunate homes, so these are some of the only books they own. Please keep translating these books into Spanish, too. What a wealth of resources and information the Web site has brought me and my students!
Lorena Guerrero-Lopez; Title I and Bilingual Resource Teacher; Valley Center Elementary; Valley Center, CA
Your books have been a great addition to our school’s guided reading books. My school uses the DRA levels for reading, and I was really appreciative of the spreadsheet you made to correlate your levels with the DRA levels. My students love your books and are growing by leaps and bounds by using them. I have one ESL student who jumped from a Level 2 (DRA) to a Level 18 (DRA) in six months! He uses your books all the time. I just wanted to say, "Keep up the good work.”
Margo Fraser; Chief Justice Milvain Elementary; Calgary, Alberta
I think you are doing a great job. I teach Japanese, Indonesian, and Chinese children, and your books have helped them tremendously. Thank you. I just can't do without your books.
Kamla; British International
I have been a devoted subscriber since you first came online last January. I love these materials. Your books and materials are used by all 21 of my ESL students, who range from grades two to five, and proficiency levels from LAU A ( Non-English speaking-new arrivals) to LAU C (orally fluent, but poor decoding /comprehension). Keep up the good work. You are helping thousands!
Theresa Adduci Castagnetti; ESL Specialist; McGlynn Elementary School; Medford, MA
I love your program. It has been so effective with teaching my ESOL students. I will never be without a subscription.
Michele Forman; ESOL Teacher, Grades 2-5; Coles Elementary; Manassas, VA
I am an elementary school English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. It is really hard to find inexpensive and appropriate materials to suit my students' needs. Also, I am short on time, as I serve more than 60 students in my school. I especially appreciate the letter and phonics materials for my kindergarten, first- and second-grade English language learners. They save my life each day! I am really happy with all of the materials you have available in Spanish. Thank you for providing such high-quality materials at a low cost. You are making a huge difference to me in the challenging job that I have.
Karin Snyder; Sterling, CO
I absolutely love Reading A-Z's books for my English language learners. I also use some of the Spanish language books for Hispanic students. I promote the books with my colleagues, and I am sure several have subscribed.
Leona S. Burdett; Newcomer ESOL Teacher; Highland and Washington Elementary Schools; Salem Keizer School District; Salem, OR
I enjoy your service (Understatement: It's like a parallel underground school district!) very much. I used Migrating Geese with my third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade ESOL students, and it was a great success. Thanks again for your very worthwhile work.
Margaret E. Laramee; ESOL Teacher; John Moffet Elementary School (K-5); Philadelphia, PA
My daughter is in a bilingual school, and every day I print Spanish and English books to practice reading and writing and to teach her new vocabulary. Keep going with this extraordinary work!
Beverly Rivera; Puerto Rico
I'm using your leveled books every day for homework for my beginning first-, second-, and third-grade ESL students. They work great with the vocabulary I start the kids off with, and the kids are enjoying the stories. Well worth the money.
Cindy Rogers; Christ Church Episcopal School; Greenville, SC
I am a teacher of English for Brazilian students in Brazil. I teach students of all levels and ages. My adult students love these books. Last semester they were just beginners, and we read the Level AA and some decodable books like "Nap in a Pan." This semester they are able to read Levels A and B. The students (adults) love to take them home and color the pictures. I just noticed that you have books also in British, French, and Spanish. I will pass on the word to our Spanish teachers.
